West Fraser Road was temporarily closed Friday morning (June 6) due to the RCMP executing a search warrant for firearms in the 1800 block of the road.

At around 7:30 a.m. Quesnel Mounties along with the North District Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant where they seized eight firearms and arrested a 50-year-old man. The man is being held and will appear before the courts, an RCMP news release says.

"I want to thank those affected by the road closure for their patience while police dealt with this incident," said Sgt. Clay Kronebusch in the news release.

West Fraser Road was closed for public safety and was reopened within a few hours of the closure.

The investigation is ongoing and Mounties say further information may be available in the future.
