Come one, come all, and join us on Saturday July 16 for the very first Alexis Creek Daze which will take place at the Alexis Creek community hall and grounds.
This event has been planned by the Community Services and Development Society as a fundraiser for the new visitor’s information centre which was opened last May.
The centre is run totally by volunteers and as we have no sponsors we need to raise funds for the operational costs.
Last tourist season was very successful, with 4,200 visitors stopping.
The Alexis Creek Daze will feature many family fun activities for all ages.
There will be a horseback poker ride, a mountain bike poker ride, lots of vendors with great displays, a farmer’s market, 4-H display, and an Alexis Creek trivia contest.
There will be a horseshoe tournament, arm wrestling and a tug-o-war challenge.
The RCMP will present their PARE Agility Test, and there will be a busy kid’s fair, family olympic games, a chilli supper and a great slide show by famed photographer artist Chris Harris.
There will also be family barn dance and a silent auction.
So whatever your age, whatever your activity level, there is something for you.
So please join us.
There are lots of camping areas in this beautiful corner of the Chilcotin — and you will be supporting a very good cause.
Last year the new visitors information centre welcomed people from all corners of the Earth who were enthralled with the beauty of our country, the friendly people and spectacular scenery, wildlife, rivers and lakes.
This year we are again off to a busy start and visitor stops are increasing every day.
The centre is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from May 15 until Sept. 15, and offers clean flush washrooms, a sani-dump, fresh water, picnic tables, lots of brochures for all the tourist business in the Chilcotin, and a full range of tourist information booklets, maps, and local information.
And you can have a coffee or an ice cream too.
The centre also has a unique heritage wall with framed photos and history of most of the original pioneers.
