The Community Arts Council of Williams Lake is looking forward to bringing three highly-touted musicians — Gerald Morin, Sylvia Bruns and Celia Morin — to Williams Lake for a concert July 19.
The evening will feature a classical cello concert with piano and violin accompaniment at the St. Peter’s Anglican Church from 7:30 to 9 p.m. and will be by donation.
“The Community Arts Council of Williams Lake is excited to have this calibre of performer in our city,” said Marg Evans, a CACWL member.
“That they are donating the benefits to the arts council’s initiatives (like) children’s art programs such as Art in the Park currently running on Thursday evening’s Performances in the Park, is extraordinary.”
The family trio — Morin on cello, Bruns on piano and daughter, Celia, on violin — are coming to Williams Lake to visit some family friends, however, offered their talents for the show.
Gerald grew up in B.C. and received his formative training with James Hunter — a cellist/pedagogue who guided the development of a remarkable number of career cellists at the Victoria Conservatory of Music.
He performs as a recitalist, most often with his wife, Sylvia. His primary job is as the assistant principal cellist in the Montreal Symphony, an orchestra that he has travelled extensively with abroad. He also enjoys teaching the cello and has taught at Memorial University in Newfoundland and Acadia University in Nova Scotia.
Gerald and Sylvia will be joined by Celia, 14, who has been playing the violin for seven years and the piano for nine years. Most recently Celia was awarded the Lakeshore Chamber Orchestra Performance Award resulting in a concerto performance with the orchestra in the fall of 2014.
This will be Gerald and Sylvia’s first concert performing with Celia, and they said they are thrilled to return to their native province to vacation, visit family and play music.
