Williams Lake-born fingerstyle guitarist Don Alder has been appointed to the Order of Canada.
Alder was awarded the appointment on Dec. 18, 2024, along with an extensive list of fellow accomplished Canadians.
Now based in Vancouver, Alder is a world-renowned fingerstyle guitarist who is also dedicated to raising awareness for people with physical challenges and improving accessibility.
Alder is a longtime friend of Rick Hansen, athlete and accessibility advocate, and was in the crash which resulted in Hansen's spinal cord injury, but was not seriously injured himself.
He and Hansen both returned to Williams Lake in 2024 for the 50-year anniversary of the crash which changed their lives.
