It was the first concert in two years for Lake City Secondary —Columneetza Campus students on Dec. 2.
The event featured Grade 8 and 9 band students and junior touring band playing live and in-person for family.
Band teacher Dena Baumann was conducting the show and entertaining the crowd with her heart-felt appreciation for the opportunity to share the students’ musical skills.
She also did not hold back in celebrating the work the students had put in to get where they have with their musical studies, despite the challenges they have faced during school closures and other COVID-related challenges.
In class the next day, Baumann asked her students how they were feeling after the performance, and shared that she herself always felt a little emotional when she performed with her older students, knowing it meant they were nearing the end of her time with her.
But she told them they did a great job.
“The power of making music together for an audience is a thing and I hope you feel that.”
