Arts and crafts sales held in Williams lake on Mother's Day weekend

Saturday, May 10, was busy with sales in Williams Lake

Pottery, paintings, jewellery and wood burning masterpieces were some of the many items being sold Saturday, May 10 at Mother's Day weekend sales in Williams Lake.

At the Central Cariboo Arts Centre, potters and painters put a ticket on their artworks, and young members Talana Brown-John and Annabelle Greig were helping out with the sale. Annabelle, who is soon graduating from high school, has been part of the guild for about one year and is practicing making bowls and mugs. Talana, who said she isn't one to work on the wheel as much, has also been part of the guild for about one year. She is currently making tiles at the guild which she will use for the surface of a table she is making with her father. Both said they appreciated how willing the more experienced potters were to share their expertise.

The Cariboo Art Society also held a sale at the art centre, with many a painting featuring stunning landscapes and wildlife from near and far.

Over at the Thompson Rivers University gym, the Cataline Elementary School Parent Advisory Council hosted a youth market. Minecraft inspired art, hand-drawn bookmarks, hand-sewn rice bags to help with pain relief, goodies and more were up for sale at the market, with student Sophia committing 20 per cent of her proceeds to go towards her friend's family facing cancer.

Grade 7 students from Columneetza Junior Secondary School also had a booth at the youth market, selling their classmate's crafts to raise funds for a class trip to Vancouver.
