Some teen mountain bikers in Williams Lake spent their Sunday helping young riders get their start.
Members of the Fox Mountain Race team and a couple of members of the Columneetza Bike Team were lending some helping hands to the Williams Lake Bike Rodeo on June 1, 2025.
The Bike Rodeo is an annual event aimed at helping younger cyclists learn some basic skills, practice their balance, check their helmets and all around get a solid start on two wheels. The event took place behind the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex.
There were stations hosted by KidSport, the Royal Purple Society, Williams Lake Recreation, Williams Lake Community Policing, Streets for All Williams Lake and Go By Bike Williams Lake.
The young mountain bike team members helped out at all the stations, teaching young riders hand signals, checking helmets, guiding riders through an obstacle course to practice skills and balance and more.
"One of the goals for the Fox Mountain Race team racers is to contribute to the biking community and mentor younger riders, so the bike rodeo was a great opportunity to do that," said Dena Baumann, one of the team coaches.
The Fox Mountain Race team are a group of youth who compete in BC Cup downhill and enduro races and most of them are also on the Lake City Secondary School/Columneetza mountain bike team.
