Party in the Park celebrates literacy in Williams Lake

Cariboo-Chilcotin Partners for Literacy's (CCPL) third annual Party in the Park on June 5 at was a celebration of lifelong learning in the community.

Long-time Williams Lake resident Wayne Lucier shared his music in Boitano Park on June 5 at Cariboo-Chilcotin Partners for Literacy's (CCPL) third annual Party in the Park.

The party is a celebration of lifelong learning in the community and it brought together over 100 people including CCPL staff, learners, volunteer tutors, board members, partnering organizations, plus family and friends and whoever else who wanted to join.

The evening included a line up of performances by local musicians, as well as great food, good company, and the rain held off as well.

This year, the celebration was further supported by a grant from Central Cariboo Arts and Culture Society. Hot dogs were cooked up by a well-oiled crew of volunteers from the Williams Lake Lions Club, and Cool Clear Water provided water for the hydration station.

Angelika Sellick, program manager with CCPL and coordinator of the event, says that the party originally got started in 2021 to help bring people together outdoors  during the height of COVID-19.

Now, the party has become much more about celebrating the value and impact of increased literacy and learning in our work lives, home lives, and communities.

As CCPL's logo states: Literacy Matters. Cariboo-Chilcotin Partners for Literacy is a non-profit organization that offers free learning  services in the Cariboo-Chilcotin region. There are CCPL offices in both 100 Mile House and Williams Lake.
