The Museum of the Cariboo Chilcotin is getting out and about and will be open more during the summer this year thanks to some student help.
Judy MacLeod, volunteer coordinator for the museum, and some summer students were at the Williams Lake Farmers' Market on Friday, June 20, sharing a booth with the Williams Lake Visitor Information Centre.
MacLeod said it was the museum's first time hosting a table at the market, but expect to see them more often.
She was excited to share the museum's summer hours as well, as the facility is now able to be open seven days a week thanks to summer student helpers providing the staffing.
But MacLeod, not one to rest on her laurels, was enthusiastically recruiting for volunteers as well, offering folks a chance to enter for a volunteer appreciation draw prize and encouraging anyone with an interest in the area or history to give a few hours to support the museum.
With lots of archival items to process, displays to change and more, there is much for the organization to do as it documents the local culture and history. Once the summer students leave, she'll be looking for many hands to help make light work.
MacLeod said she'd love to find more seniors interested in helping preserve the stories of the area for future generations, and a few hours here and there can help.
Museum of the Cariboo-Chilcotin is now open seven days a week through the summer, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The museum offers scavenger hunts for indoor activities, and is working on a a new cowboy line cabin display. There will also be another saddle cleaning workshop in August.
