It was a festive night Tuesday for the 3rd Williams Lake Girl Guides.
The guides, who gather every Tuesday evening in the basement of St. Peter’s Anglican Church, celebrated the season with an evening of Christmas crafts and games.
New to the unit, 29-year-old Christine Lion received her 25-year pin in girl guides from guide leader Christine Constable.
Lion just moved to Williams Lake two months ago to work as a habitat biologist for the local FLNRORD ministry but said she had connected with the local girl guides even before she even got here as a way to break into her new community.
Lion said she started with guiding in sparks in Quesnel before moving to Kamloops, and then Vancouver, always staying in the guiding organization, “basically my whole life,” Lion joked.
Lion said guiding is a great way to meet people, plus she loves the outdoors and hiking and felt she had to continue on as a leader herself to pay forward for all the leaders who influenced her throughout her life.
“I had a lot of leaders who did so much I felt I had to give back what people did for me,” she said.
