St. Andrew Anglican Church in Sidney is celebrating a significant step towards sustainability with the installation of a new solar panel system.
The church, with its dedicated congregation of just over one hundred, will now benefit from reduced energy costs and a smaller environmental footprint.
The initiative, announced in April, was swiftly completed within a month by a Langford-based solar energy company.
The 25.62 kW system, installed on the church hall roof, is already showing promising results, estimated to save the parish around $3,000 annually in the long run.
On June 11, the Right Rev. Anna Greenwood-Lee, bishop of the Diocese of Islands and Inlets, will officiate a dedication ceremony for the solar panels.
The bishop will join community members for a free "Neighbours Lunch," at 12:15 p.m., open to all who wish to celebrate this milestone.
St. Andrew is proud to be the first of the 46 Anglican churches within the Diocese of Islands and Inlets to adopt solar energy, setting an example for others to follow and demonstrating a commitment to environmental stewardship.
