Despite my many years here, the generosity of our Cariboo community continues to astonish me. Throughout our region, we often witness remarkable acts of kindness. We’ve seen spaghetti dinner fundraisers for the people of Ukraine and Jasper, and we’ve had events supporting individuals facing various challenges, whether they be due to health, finances or tragic loss.

Last week, I was deeply moved when three extraordinary women arrived with dozens of handmade quilts for the children and parents affected by the devastating Lac La Hache school bus accident. The effort required to create just one of these quilts is immense (especially for someone like me who lacks that skill). I was told some of these quilts were sent from as far away as Cold Lake and the Lower Mainland, as well as from closer communities like Horsefly, Interlakes, Bridge Lake and Williams Lake.

These generous quilters chose to support a group of people who were fortunate to survive what could have been a much worse tragedy. Their quilts offer an incredibly warm hug to all the recipients and are a gesture of comfort and compassion. As I’ve said before, this is an amazing place to live, and this is just one more example of why so many choose to make the Cariboo their home.

Thank you so much to all the quilters involved in this incredibly generous gift-giving. I encourage all individuals affected by the bus crash to come by my MLA Office on Horse Lake Road in 100 Mile House to claim their beautiful quilt, as some already have.

Thank you again, from one very grateful MLA.
