The sad new news last week was the death of former B.C. Premier John Horgan. His third bout of cancer did him in.
John was one of B.C.’s –and Canada’s -- most popular premiers. Known as the “people’s Premier” he was better liked when he left the office after five years than he was when he became premier. He won the hearts of British Columbians who knew he put their well-being ahead of his ego. He believed the power of public service should be directed to helping others and making the province –and the country—the best place to live.
According to reports, Steven Point, B.C.’s first Indigenous Lt. Governor, shares that belief. While Lt. Governor, Mr. Point carved a canoe that sits in the legislature's Hall of Honour. Speaking at the Conservative party’s swearing in ceremonies at the B.C. legislature (his daughter, A’a:liva Warbus is a newly - elected Conservative MLA) he used the canoe to make his point.
To get anywhere we all have to paddle together, everyone has to paddle at the same time, he explained. “You can’t just sit there and let everyone else paddle. We’re all on Earth to serve the communities we represent, and more than that, all the people of B.C. “
Let’s hope our all our provincial and federal politicians can paddle together.

We worry about social media having a negative impact on our society, but there are positives. One is pictures. People post beautiful pictures of our beautiful land. Whenever I’m feeling blue I go to my computer and look for some. I’m never disappointed. Thank you to those who capture everything from sunsets and sunrises to deer grazing in the back yard. Those pictures are a joy to those of us who can’t get out and about anymore.
