Despite temperatures dipping down Saturday evening, July 1, the main events were heating up the track during Thunder Mountain Speedway’s Stampede Hornets and minis, Legends and streets.
While the sun was shining, spectators lined the viewing area, many clad in blankets and warm jackets.
The smiles were broad as the Legends class winners received their trophies.
Prince George racers Jeff Wildman Murray got first and Steve Jefferson got second, while Phil Hustad of Terrace came third.
Emily Thomas accepted her trophy for fastest time Hornets, and later posed for a photograph with the other female contender Shayla Doble of Penticton who got the fastest time in Hornets B-Dash and B-Heat.
Murray got the trophy for fastest time Legends and A-dash, Ron Bramble of Prince George got the fastest in the B-Dash for Legends and Cole Byrd of Williams Lake got the trophy for - A-dash Hornets and A-heat.
The youngest Legends contender was Aiden Conn, 12, from Prince George.
He said it was his first year racing in Legends and before Williams Lake he raced in Prince George.
“I did go-carts last year and won a junior championship,” he said.
When asked about racing in the Legends he said it is awesome.
His vehicle is a 1934 Ford coupe body with a motorcycle engine.
His father Jason Conn also races, mostly in the U.S. Aiden’s younger sister Jenna Conn was busy helping hand out the trophies on Saturday as well.
The Street Stock Main Event involved 75 laps around the track, with Llyal Mccomber emerging as the winner, Rolt Hagedorm in second and Garnet Grimard third.
“I was leading for most of the race and ended up having a tire go flat,” said contender Donny Kunka.
