Williams Lake Blue Fins celebrate successful season

An event was held to celebrate the end of the season and acknowledge some noteworthy accomplishments

The Williams Lake Blue Fins capped off a remarkable season with a year-end celebration full of cheers, laughter, and heartfelt moments.

The event recognized achievements from across the team, from swimmers completing their first legal 100m intermediate Medley (IM) to seasoned athletes breaking personal bests and leading the team at championships.

“This season had incredible energy from start to finish,” said Amanda Nemeth, Blue Fins head coach.

“I was so impressed by the drive of our swimmers. They came in excited to learn, committed to improving, and determined to reach their goals at every level of the program.”

Major awards were presented to standout swimmers who demonstrated growth, leadership, and team spirit. Gavin Reedman was named Swimmer of the Year, while Makayla Francis earned Rookie of the Year.

Sportsmanship awards went to Jordyn Stokes and Soren Pare. Hardest Trainer honours were awarded to Tiera French and Emmett Engel, and the Most Improved trophies went to Jasper Bird and Keelan McCoubrey. Elodie Aumond received the club’s Perseverance Award.

Swim-a-Thon efforts were also celebrated. Top fundraiser Riel Tate led the way, with top swimmer recognitions going to Gavin Reedman and Jordyn Stokes. Age group winners included Riel and Nelo Tate, Makayla Francis, Vernon Dean, Lilly Reedman, and Emmett Engel.

The night included farewells to graduating athletes and coaches, including Rowan Smith and Jordyn Stokes, whose leadership and commitment have left a lasting mark on the team. A special thank-you was also given to long-time club president Naomi Smith, who is stepping down after nine years of service.

“It’s the work done behind the scenes that lets our swimmers shine,” said Nemeth. “We’re incredibly grateful for all Naomi has done for this club. Almost a decade of dedication, love, and leadership. We are really going to miss her.”

The team is now on break from regular programming until mid-September, but several provincial qualifiers are still training hard as they prepare to represent the club at the Swim BC Provincial Championships at UBC, July 17–20.
