Vernon's Okanagan Fighting Championship wows a sold-out crowd

The second ever OFC event was a "resounding success" according to organizers.

In just its second-ever event, the newly formed Okanagan Fighting Championships (OFC) is already making a claim as a top combat sports promotion company in the province.

OFC hosted its first event of the year on Saturday, June 14, and sold out the Vernon Curling Club.

“Everything went off without a hitch,” said OFC organizers Alisha and Raja Kler. “We couldn’t be more grateful for the incredible support from the community.”

The evening featured 24 fights, including 10 mixed martial arts, two kickboxing matches and 12 grappling contests.

"The electric atmosphere showcased the region's top talent and was a thrilling and diverse showcase for fans of all levels," said Kler.

Vernon's Unity MMA gym was strongly represented, with five athletes competing, and three of them nabbing victories.

Riley Huston won the super middleweight belt, while Ethan Northcott took the status champion belt.

Vernon's Pacific Top Team, another local gym, fielded two athletes, with Aya Higuchi capturing the inaugural Women’s OFC Cup in grappling with an impressive performance. Adam Pingrenon also earned a decisive win in his MMA debut.
