Cassandra Brown is leaving Mongolia with a bronze medal after a fantastic 3x3 basketball tournament with the national team.
The Vernon native helped Team Canada to a third-place showing at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup, hosted in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
After a dominating play-in performance against Japan (18-6), Canada faced off against Spain in the quarterfinals on Saturday, June 28.
The defensive battle saw just 20 total points scored between the two teams until the dying seconds, when Brown scored the final bucket with three seconds on the clock to send her team to the semifinals with an 11-10 victory.
Canada played Netherlands in the semis on Sunday, but the Dutch proved too strong, winning 21-15. Paige Crozon, from Humboldt, Sask., led Canada in the loss, with 10 points and five rebounds, while Brown chipped in with three points.
In the bronze medal match, Canada dominated from the opening tip, comfortably winning 21-9 over Poland. Crozon powered the team with 13 points and five rebounds, while stout defence held Poland to a ghastly 6/24 shooting.
Netherlands won the gold, defeating host Mongolia 15-9 in the final.
