Two U15 Williams Lake Timberwolves take home KIBIHT awards

Logan McDonald and Lorne Moe attended KIBIHT in December

Two Williams Lake hockey players ended December on a high note, taking home impressive awards from the Kamloops International Bantam Ice Hockey Tournament (KIBIHT).

Logan McDonald and Lorne Moe play on the Williams Lake Timberwolves U15 team and headed to Kamloops Dec. 15-19 with their team and coaches Troy Weil, Owen Thomas and Frankie Robbin for the well-known tournament.

Logan received top scorer of the tournament, and Lorne received top forward and was named MVP. Forty-one teams attended the tournament.

Logan, 14, has been playing hockey for around 10 years and has played on several teams in the Williams Lake Minor Hockey Association (WLMHA) and also with the Total Ice Titans.

He played for the Timberwolves U13 rep team for a year before it was shut down due to COVID, only rejoining this year, where he plays centre. KIBIHT is the biggest tournament Logan has ever attended, and having played house hockey, it felt like a huge accomplishment to beat out some of the players in rep hockey, his mother, Stephanie, explained.

Logan thanked his team, coaches, manager, family and the many volunteers.

“Without all of them, this wouldn’t have been possible,” said Logan.

Lorne, also 14, has been playing hockey since he was five and this is his first year with the Timberwolves. Before this, he was playing with the Total Ice Titans. Having only been with the Timberwolves since September, he said it was a huge surprise to win awards at KIBIHT.

“I was super shocked and didn’t know what to say because I was so happy,” said Lorne, who also thanked his team, community and especially his mom for her hard work, whether cooking him meals or bringing him to practices and games.

Lorne’s mother, Andrea, attended the Kamloops tournament and said it was an exciting tournament and nice to see Logan and Lorne passing the puck a lot. She said the whole team was focused, there to win it and did really well.

The Timberwolves played six games at the tournament and made it to the semi-finals.

Both of the players attend Columneetza Jr. Secondary School and are involved in other sports, as well.
