Middle school students competed at the School District 27 track meet Friday, June 9

Middle school students competed at the School District 27 track meet Friday, June 9 at the Columneetza field and nearby Nesika Elementary.

With the sidelines filled with parents, younger siblings and grandparents cheering, the young athletes ran their hearts out, showed their agility and strength and enjoyed a full day outside.

The one km race was held Thursday, June 8 under very hot conditions, with long jump, running, triple jump and shot put on Friday.

Students participated from Big Lake, Cataline, Chilcotin Road, Horsefly, Nesika, Marie Sharpe, Mountview and 150 Mile House schools.

Kelvin Parent, a teacher for 28 years in the district, has been helping organize the meet for more than 20 years.

“I like everything about it,” he said. “I like the competition, I like how hard the kids work, I like how hard our volunteers work. It’s such a stressful day to get to but it is a great day when we are here.”

The day culminated with the finals of the 100 metre races in all ages categories and boys and girls.
