Mountain bikers can save the date on their calendars and start making training plans for the Pedal by the Puddle enduro event.
Organizer Mike Franklin said the event will be on a Sunday this year, and Sept. 15, 2024 is when they’ll be hosting this year’s fun race on the Southsyde network.
Franklin said picking the date is a way for people to plan ahead, and Sunday will give more out-of-town riders a chance to come and pre-ride the course if they want.
While Franklin admitted he doesn’t have a “training plan” per se, when he knows he has a specific event on his calendar to ride, he gets on his bike more often in order to be prepared. Setting the date will also give riders who want to ride as part of a team to organize their team.
The course for the 2024 Pedal by the Puddle will remain largely the same, said Franklin, starting from Gun-A-Noot Trail off the Dog Creek Road.
The route takes in parts of the trails Twizzler, Rotnee, Wine Jug, Leppard Spots, Allsorts, and more, with the majority of the trail being blue-rated.
Laps are 11.2 km long and teams or individual riders can do as many laps as they are able to complete within a six hour time frame. Last year the top teams completed seven laps in six hours and the top individual riders completed six laps in the six hours.
Last year was the return of the event to the lakecity, after it had last been held in 2013. Pedal by the Puddle helped raise funds towards the Foundry Cariboo-Chilcotin, a resource centre for youth ages 12-24 providing social activities, mental and physical health supports.
