Nothing quite says hometown hockey like an outdoor skating rink.
Leading up to, and following, the weekend of Rogers Hometown Hockey in Williams Lake Jan. 5-7, the event’s local co-orindators have been busy constructing an outdoor skating rink for the community’s use.
The plan is, if weather co-operates, for the rink to open on Friday, Dec. 29 for drop-in use said Deb Radolla, hometown hockey co-ordinator in Williams Lake. The rink was flooded on Wednesday, Dec. 20, as the final preparations are being completed.
“It’s geared to family fun, and people who want to drop in at any time can go for a skate,” Radolla said.
“We’re hoping to use it as long as possible for family drop-ins and skating [after the event].”

The Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society also has bins setup around the city where they’ve been collecting used skates for people to either grab a pair of skates, or to donate a pair of skates. The CCCS will have a booth setup during the Rogers Hometown Hockey festivities for anyone who needs a pair of a skates to take part in the fun.
