Mustangs Junior A main camp underway, games scheduled for the weekend

Young hockey players are the ice vying for a spot on the Junior A Mustangs in Williams Lake

The sound of pucks slamming the boards is in full swing with the Williams Lake Mustangs Junior A Hockey main camp at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex is underway. 

Logistics and operations manager Leslie Rowse was at the registration desk Friday afternoon as players arrived for the on-ice practice.  

"They had a fitness camp at Total Ice this morning," Rowse said. 

Members of the public are invited to take in one or all three games the players will be competing in over the weekend. 

They are are on Friday and Saturday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and on Sunday morning from 10 a.m. to noon. 

Rowse confirmed the team's home opener is Friday, Sept. 20. 

Season's tickets are still on sale and they are looking for two more billet homes for the out-of-town players. 

Anyone interested in billeting is encouraged to email info@wlmustangs.ca to find out more.

"We will be having a Zoom meeting Wednesday, [Aug. 21] for the billet homes and anyone who might want to billet," she said. 

In March, the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League announced the Summerland Steam franchise was sold and relocated to Williams Lake.
