The Lake City Falcons junior and senior boys’ rugby teams had a busy weekend hosting teams from Prince Rupert, Terrace and Kamloops.
The Falcons senior boys proved to be dominant on the pitch, going unbeaten in five games.
Game one saw the Falcons run over Prince Rupert, 34-10, with James Kaufman racking up three tries, while Zeb Matherly, Cooper Albrechtson and Josh Rhodes each tallied single tries.
Next, they upended Terrace, 27-10. Albrechtson recorded two tries, while Kaufman, Rhodes and Jaedyn Kirkbride had singles.
In its third game the Falcons managed to hold Kamloops’ NorKam Saints to just a single try in a 22-5 victory where Kaufman (2), Spencer Holland and Ryan Haskins scored.
Lukas Johnson had the game of the tournament for Williams Lake when he exploded for four tries, while Kaufman and Brendan Jaques had singles.
In the Falcons’ final game they again defeated Terrace, 29-10, with Kaufman, Holland, Johnson, Jacob Thomas and Albrechtson all scoring tries.
The upstart junior side, meanwhile, finished the weekend with three wins, one tie and two losses.
Jared Brown was the lone try scorer for Williams Lake in a 10-5 loss to Terrace, before the team tied Prince Rupert, 10-10, in its second game with tries from Triston Waslen and Isaac Shoults.
In game three the Falcons lost 20-5 to Terrace, with Andy Berkelaar recording the lone try, before the team went on a three-game winning streak versus Prince Rupert to close out its tournament.
In those final three games Williams Lake beat Prince Rupert 22-12, 17-10 and 25-5.
Jacob Jackson scored five tries throughout, while Brown and Berkelaar had two, with Taki Faubert, Waslen, Bjorn Hunt and Jack Zavitz each notching singles.
Falcons’ coach Todd Pritchard said the tournament was for fun and was all about getting games for the school’s players, so there were no winners at the rugby fest.
