Port Alberni's first-ever Tri-K for kids was deemed a "huge success" from participants and parents.
The event on Saturday, May 3, 2025, organized by the city's Parks, Recreation and Culture department, offered children and youth the opportunity to experience the sport of triathlon in a positive and fun environment.
Participants started with a swim then switched to bikes and finally a run. Age groups ran from 5-6 years, 7-8 years, 9-10 years and 11-13 years. Each group had different lengths or distances for each sport depending on their ages.
Ribbons were handed out to winners at the end of the afternoon.
"I wish we would have had something like this when we were kids," one parent said at the finish line.
