There has been an outpouring of support for the inaugural Jordan Siegmueller Memorial Golf Tournament, set to tee off later this month.
“The response has been remarkable, both locally and from across the province,” said Crystal Wells, tournament organizer.
“We are excited and plan to host it for many years to come.”
The tournament, which is the first of the season and replaces the previous RBC Big Hole Charity Golf Tournament, will be a way to keep Jordan’s memory alive while fundraising for the community, said Wells.
“Jordan was a good friend of ours,” she said of the beloved 24-year-old, who worked at the local golf course when he was the victim of an accidental drowning last July. “From now on this will be a tournament in his memory and that’s based on his love of the sport.”
Slated for April 29, the tournament already filled up in just under five business days.
“We have 144 registered plus there’s a wait list.”
Funds raised will be donated to the after school programs at the Boys and Girls Club of Williams Lake and District and for two Lake City Secondary School bursaries, she said.
The bursaries are for $1,000 each and will be awarded to two Grade 12 student athletes.
The tournament includes golf, goodie bags, dinner and a prize and will be a big hole tournament contested in three divisions: competitive, mixed and fun.
“The fee includes a dance hosted by DJ Lynden Grosso, who’s donating his services,” Wells said.
“The support has been overwhelming from the business community.”
Wells said there will also be bucket draw prizes pre-sold at the course, and two flights round trip from Williams Lake to Vancouver that have been donated by Pacific Coastal, as well as donated golf packages from Kelowna, Prince George and Kamloops up for grabs, a trip to Bella Coola and even a Canucks jersey signed by the entire team that will be auctioned off. There’s also been an $1,100 generator donated by Chemo RV and a car stereo and installation.
Big Sky Roofing and Eyebrow U Clinic are the sponsors of the hole-in-one which will see a side-by-side UTV given away. The Williams Lake Golf and Tennis Club also donated the green fees for the tournament.
Wells said they are still looking for volunteers to help with a barbecue during the day if anyone is interested in helping out at the tournament.
Also, if anyone would like to donate to the fundraiser they can do so by contacting Wells at 250-302-9613. If they would like to donate directly to the bursary they can write cheques made out to the Cariboo Foundation Society Re: Jordan Siegmueller, the office of the PMT Chartered Accountants and the contact is Liz Wynn at 250-392-2911.
