An Aug. 26 horse-riding accident left friends and family of local horsemanship trainer Evan Howarth looking at ways to help while he recovers.
That help will come in the form of a potluck dinner, dance, live auction, silent auction and bucket raffle the evening of Nov. 26 at the Williams Lake Rod and Gun Club.
Evan’s daughter, Shelly Loring, said her dad had recently started up his own business — operating a horsemanship enterprise called Horsemanship with Evan Howarth — when the accident occurred at Stone.
“The horse bucked with him and just bucked him off,” Loring said. “He was on it doing a horse clinic and ended up breaking his pelvic bone and his right hip. Due to his injury he’s unable to work for an unknown period of time.”
Howarth is back at home recovering, she said, but to lift his spirits and attempt to help him financially friends and family decided on a benefit dinner.
The night will feature local, live band, The Skid Marks, and is a dry event. Dinner is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the silent auction, live auction, loonie auction and dance to follow.
“So far we have a hind quarter of beef, cut and wrapped, we have two leather gear bags, two horse pictures, some hand-made blankets, a hand-made silk western scarf, a hand-made cinch, a horse necklace and other items up for auction,” Loring said.
Admission is $10 per person or $25 per family and tickets will be available at the door.
Organizers are also accepting donations for the auction and are asking anyone interested to contact either Roy Blatchford at 250-394-4920 or Loring at 250-659-5833.
A Facebook group has also been created called “Benefit Potluck Dinner and Dance for Evan Howarth” with information on the event.
