The Lake City Falcons senior girls’ soccer teams hosted a spring showcase this past weekend that saw teams from 100 Mile House, Quesnel, Fort St. John and neighbouring Columneetza campus middle school attend.
The senior girls came out strong in its first game against Corrileau of Quesnel winning 3-0 with two goals coming from Faith Outhouse.
In game two Friday the seniors squared off with their junior teammates, needing a seven-person shootout to win.
“Despite violent skies and sunburn-worthy heat, the junior girls came together in an excellent display of heart and skill,” their coach, Jodie Mason said, noting the juniors also defeated Peter Skene Ogden of 100 Mile House during the weekend.
Scoring for the junior side versus the seniors was Paige Outhouse with two and a goal from Pyper Alexander. Most valuable players went to Brooke Levens and Paige, however, Mason said every girl deserved it.
“Special shout out to Tayla Pitt who rocked in her Falcon debut as goalie,” Mason said. “It was an inspiring day and a reminder of why coaching rocks.”
After those exciting two games, the junior girls turned their attention to Fort St. John.
“The girls pulled through with lots of heart and extreme effort, running their butts off with no subs,” said co-coach Nicole Therrien. “It was a tough loss but they didn’t give up in their next game against Quesnel.”
Therrien said her players used quick speed and accurate passing to tie up the game with goals from Bailey Alexander and Katelynn Hill and, with only a minute left Brette Kerley found the back of the net to lift the Falcons to a 3-2 victory. MVPs went to Alexander and Pitt.
The Falcons’ senior side, meanwhile, squared off with PSO where Grace Outhouse netted two goals for the home team in a 2-0 shutout.
In their final game of the weekend the Falcons took on a powerhouse squad from Fort St. John who went on to rack up an astounding goal tally, Falcons senior girls coach Caitlin Sabatino said.
“The game was aggressive and fast paced and saw some great teamwork displayed by us with quick-to-feet passes and great talk,” Sabatino said.
“Unfortunately, Fort St. John managed to get a goal in with heavy pressure in front of the net off a corner and the girls finished with a 3-1 record.”
The Falcons senior girls are now preparing to travel to Dawson Creek this weekend for zone championships.
