After rain forced the cancellation of Canada Day activities, including resident Travis Anthony’s planned Canada Day skateboard festivities in Boitanio Park, Anthony has been busy ensuring the event would still see they light of day.

That will come in the form of what’s being dubbed the 2018 Lake City Skateboard and BMX Jam, hosted and organized by Anthony, who is also known as Williams Lake hip hop artist Young Catalyst.

The jam is planned for Sept. 15 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Nathan Mathews Memorial Skate Park.

“There are people coming from different parts of B.C. to attend,” Anthony said. “It’s free to enter and open to all ages. No fees or anything, and we have another huge prize pool thanks to our community sponsors.

“Everybody got together to make this happen, and I was overwhelmed once again by the help and it’s good to see everybody on board for this.”

Anthony said the skateboard and BMX jam will include four separate judged events: individual timed solo run, spot battle contests, highest ollie contest and a king of the park game of SKATE (like HORSE on a skateboard).

“The timed solo run will be broken up into beginner, intermediate and advanced where each competitor gets two timed solo runs, and there will be prizes there for first, second and third place for that event,” Anthony said.

“The spot battle will be the best trick on each obstacle. Highest ollie and SKATE will be fun.”

He said the skateboard and BMX jam, which has started to become an annual event in the lakecity, is always a good time for friends to get together to enjoy each other’s company, and the sport.

“Everybody always gets on board, and it’s kind of like an annual get together for us,” he said. “We’ve got a lot of volunteers helping run it which is a huge help, too.”

Anthony said a sound system will be setup at the park during the event, while four judges: Anthony, Bryan ‘Bioson’ Delaronde, Justin Sure and James Wyborn will be responsible for selecting winners.

“There will also be a couple of live performances as well as there will be a few hip hop artists that will do some performances,” he said.

Anthony invites everyone to come check out the event, socialize and to enjoy to the day. No pre-registration is required for interested participants.
