After a lack of snow resulted in the cancellation of the Zone 8 Winter Games Trials scheduled for Dec. 30, 2023 at Bull Mountain, athletes are still aiming for the games.

There were eight spots originally available for Zone 8 athletes, which includes the entire Cariboo Regional District area, Fort Nelson-Liard, and Peace River.

Ten cross-country ski athletes had registered for the Zone 8 trials, and since they were unable to compete for the eight spots, all 10 athletes were offered a spot at the Lhtako Quesnel 2024 BC Winter Games. All have accepted.

“We have really good geographic representation this year, with skiers from Dawson Creek, Prince George, Quesnel and Williams Lake,” said Sara Cotter, Zone rep for Cross Country BC.

“Cross Country BC was able to devise the solution to this tricky situation to come up with opportunities for all the registrants for trials,” she said, noting it was a silver lining in an otherwise challenging situation.

Lhatako Quesnel 2024 Winter Games will take place February 22-25, 2024, conditions permitting.
