Two Cariboo Archers travelled to Calgary to compete in the Canada Cup (West) Target Championships May 31 and June 1.
Lily and Cara Fraser, the mother-daughter archery enthusiasts shot a 72-arrow round at 50 meters and their scores were used to rank them for the playdowns.
Lily Fraser had 20 competitors in her category and some of them were required to attend this competition to be evaluated for Team Canada for the upcoming World Youth Championships in Manitoba.
Against the best 50+ and Under 18 Women in Canada, Lily finished seventh. In the shoot-down, Lily tied the eventual silver medal winner (a 50+ woman from the USA), but lost by one 'x' or centre shot tie breaker, reported coach Al Campsall.
Lily teamed up with Scott Allen (from the United States) for the team event and the pair won the silver medal.
Despite the wind and the rain, they both shot well, according to Campsall.
He said despite Cara struggling with a tendonitis issue in her bow arm, she also shot well, finishing fifth overall in the optional 720.
"It was a great experience and networking with other high performance archers is always amazing," said Cara.
Cariboo Archers now are preparing for the BC 3D Championships in Quesnel on June 21, 22, the Canadian 3D Championships Aug. 2-4 in Lac La Biche, Alta., the Canadian Field Archery Championships Aug. 5, 6, also in Lac La Biche, Alta. and the Canadian Outdoor Target Championships Aug. 8-10 in Lac La Biche, Alta.
