Mountain biking season can go long in the Cariboo, and this year, it is still going, with trails in great shape.

BGC Mountain Biking Program had one more week left, with riders heading out to roll down Shuttlebunny on Oct. 16.

The BGC program starts up in the spring, once trails are clear and in good shape. Youth leaders lead beginner riders on Mondays 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. They take more experienced or confident riders on Wednesdays 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Derek Godin, independent living coordinator for BGC Williams Lake, said he accompanies the groups as support, but the youth leaders are the ones taking charge.

The program costs $50 for the entire season and the club has some bikes and helmets for those who want to give the sport a try, starting out with some basics in the spring.

This year Godin said it was his first year helping with the program and he thought it went well. He said the youth ride to their comfort levels and they have riders as young as around eight years old up to their early teens.
