Right here in the lakecity, the Williams Lake Atom Development team, the City of Williams Lake and Scotiabank — the national sponsor of Hockey Day in Canada — have their own events planned to help celebrate the day.

In conjunction with the Williams Lake Atom Development team’s annual tournament from Feb. 11-13 at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex, the team, the City and Scotiabank would like to invite everyone in the community to the arena for some special activities in the Gibraltar Room and on the ice.

Then from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. the Ottawa Senators and Edmonton Oilers kick off the festivities.

And from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. a tentative yoga/exercise class is being planned in the Gibraltar Room with a $5 drop-in fee.

At 3:45 p.m., the Toronto Maple Leafs versus Montreal Canadiens game will be aired on the big screen.

Finally, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in rink two at the complex, a hardest shot contest will be hosted.

Entry to the competition is $5 for three attempts with prizes to be awarded to the winners.

Also added to the schedule on Friday, Feb. 11 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. is a shoot-out competition for all atom players registered in minor hockey.

The sign-up deadline is 9 p.m. Thursday night and all interested players are asked to e-mail Yvonne Hauk at yhauk@shaw.ca or visit her at the complex in the lobby from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight Feb. 10 .

There is no entry fee and prizes will be awarded for the shootout.

The Atom Development Tournament, kicking off Friday at 4:30 p.m., will feature eight teams including Williams Lake, Quesnel, Vernon, Kamloops, the Prince George Oilers, Dawson Creek, Fort St. John and the Prince George Leafs.

Williams Lake plays its first game Friday at 7 p.m. versus the Prince George Leafs.
