After Lou and Ernie Hrynkewich saw a large blue spruce come down during the March 14 windstorm that blew through the region, the couple decided to cut down their other blue spruce but left a stump for Dean Ross Gilpin to carve them a squirrel for their yard on Kinglet Road in Russett Bluff. “The Native designs on the side are protecting spirits for us and anyone visiting in our yard,” Lou said.
