I caught a story recently on the cost of living that talked about: the high cost of food, the availability of Canadian produce, the Victory Gardens promoted by the federal government during the Second World War, and it got me to thinking about what my wife is doing and has done.
She started growing lettuce in a small grow area in our basement and we have been eating home grown lettuce since April.
Tomato, lettuce, squash, peas, basil, cucumber, kale, broccoli, watermelon, carrots and garlic are some of the plants started in the house and transplanted out or recently planted outside in our deck planters or small garden and raised planter.
