Letter: Government needs to step in to stop bus strike

Step up and find a solution for these overworked, underpaid drivers!
letters

I had to stop driving over 10 years ago due to neurological complications from lyme disease. While I am now able to drive, I choose to not own a car for ecological as well as financial reasons.

With government constantly taxing carbon through the gas that we buy for our cars, why isn’t government stepping in to help solve the current problem with the bus drivers in the Cowichan Valley? I understand that the drivers are receiving $6 less per hour than the what the drivers in Victoria receive. Could we not take the money from all of those carbon taxes and put them towards these drivers’ wages to get them back to work? I am curious, where does the carbon tax go if not for solutions like these?

In my opinion, buses are an essential service. I know lots of people that ride the bus to get to work, as well as medical appointments, including myself.

Walk your talk, government. If you are truly sincere about climate change being caused by the amount of cars using gas, then don’t make it impossible for people to get to work and medical appointments without cars!

Step up and find a solution for these overworked, underpaid drivers!
