Are Canadians special? I’ve never been anything else, but given what’s going on in the world, I am glad I am Canadian. Canada is a beautiful country, physically and politically. The beauty? If you don’t like one place, try another. There’s plenty of choices. Politics? I’ve lived with all the different governments, and regardless of party, none have seriously damaged the country. We haven’t had extreme left or right wing governments. Let’s keep it that way.
If I sound a bit rah rah, I mean to. We’re living in perilous times, and we need to appreciate Canada as one of the safest, sanest, freest countries in the world.
Let’s wave the flag, buy Canadian, cope with harder times, try to get along with each other, smile when we say no to President Trump, take time on July 1 to show we’re proud Canadians.
Another reason to celebrate, this weekend is the 97th annual Williams Lake Stampede.
It’s a mighty show, scads of other activities going on along with it. We can be proud of the Stampede, it’s “special” Williams Lake.
Valedictorian Arwin Klar’s speech at the LCSS graduation was special too.
I especially liked this part - ----
“What unites us is not where we go after this, but what we take with us: the lessons of this town. The community that taught us to show up, to speak out, to support each other. To be kind, not because the world always is but because we can be. In a world that often values speed, I hope we stay slow enough to listen. In a world that celebrates noise, I hope we remember the power of silence. And in a world full of distractions, I hope we remember who we are, and where we come from."
Yes!
