During the next several weeks residents can expect to see the Williams Lake Fire Department conducting training sessions on Tuesday evenings at the former Cariboo Lodge site at 100 Fourth Avenue North.
Practices will include firefighter rescue and scenario-based training, but no burning, said Deputy Fire Chief Rob Warnock.
The firefighter training will mark the beginning of new things to come as the site is destined to become a new 70-care bed facility approved for Williams Lake by Interior Health in March that was awarded to inSite Housing, Hospitality Health Services Inc.
Construction is anticipated to begin in July 2017 with the new facility expected to open in the summer of 2018.
While the fire department is on site, Warnock assures the public the building will be secure.
His department, he adds, is excited for the chance to perform training in a large structure because it will offer unique training opportunities.
