Beef to the neighbour who just put up a Canadian flag that was stolen from my front gate.

BOUQUET Gratitude to Nanaimo Foodshare for welcoming me as a practicum student. A heartfelt thank you to Lola, Shauna, Emma, Megan, Calven, Mel, Cristina, Brie and all the participants of the CA7. You are truly wonderful individuals.

BEEF To the drivers of deliberately loud vehicles and their apologists and justifiers. What I really don’t understand is why anyone would deliberately disturb their neighbours and the community in general and not care. Consideration for others should be the hallmark of our community. We shouldn’t have to expect the police to have to waste their valuable time for a problem that is so easy to remedy.

BOUQUET To the Students for Seniors, a group of Dover Bay Secondary School students who volunteered their time to assist with my gardening tasks. Special thanks to Rocky, Jane, Emmeline, Cate and Cameron for their help.

BEEF To the expensive hair dresser who inconsistently left my hair too long on one side several  times, requiring me to come back to get it fixed. She rudely announced to the whole shop that it’s because I’m aging. At the price you charge, I expect the cut to be correct every time and you should be polite. You’re in a service industry. Do better.

BOUQUET To Ruby L. for resurrecting up to 48 Hudson’s Bay stores renewing Canadian spirit and enterprise. Thank you.

BEEF To the young man with the very loud voice in the house on the corner. With warmer weather, we want to have the windows open and also enjoy our outdoor space. We can hear your conversation while you play games in your room and when you’re out on your deck.

BOUQUET To W. Congrats on your fitness progress and being able to touch your toes when you stretch. Now another challenge: try to palm the floor while stretching standing up without bending your knees.

BEEF To the neighbour who just put up a Canadian flag that was stolen from my front gate.

BOUQUET To the courageous beefer who shared harmful lived experience attempting to access our 100-per cent broken government mental health system that is not honestly reporting its failures when denying skilled, evidence-based and best practices assessment, treatment and duty of care to our most vulnerable citizens. Thank you for sharing your heart that brings light to the devastating lie that genuine help is available.

BEEF Shame on the strata council and management company that paid for all owners’ attic upgrades except for one unit. They were treated unfairly, disrespected and given abrupt and unreasonable cause. Sounds like a legitimate visit to a lawyer for our good neighbours’ benefit.

BOUQUET To R U Computing. The technician gave good advice, helped with computer set-up, great value for money, they will definitely be having my business going forward. Thank you for the wonderful service.

BEEF To our beloved theatre. It’s a great place, but us volunteers have been asking for back support stools for a long time. We are not getting any younger. Please.

BOUQUET Huge gratitude to Coun. Eastmure for advocating for our community members who are in need of affordable housing, and for acknowledging this is a human right. You are a light in the darkness.

BEEF To the parole board and correctional services for letting re-offenders go. When someone in their family has a crime committed against them, maybe something will change to keep these people locked up.

BOUQUET To all the people who are educating themselves about global affairs and waking up to what’s really going on. We can make a difference.

BEEF To Island businesses that are not hiring local students this summer. College student with previous extensive service work experience unable to land an interview this year. Are the job postings real?

BOUQUET I was so impressed when two police officers came to the aid of a drunk person who could hardly stand up in the bus shelter downtown, they were so polite and gentle when speaking to him.

BEEF To drivers who speed up at a crosswalk instead of slow down. I’d prefer not getting hit.

BOUQUET To all the children. Since the big wind storm when our ‘give a little, take a little’ home tree was blown down we have been staying with friends in other parks. But, now we are back living in our new ‘Welcome Tree’ home at Neck Point. A special thanks to all those folks who made it happen. Come visit, but please don’t bring any toys (we have lots) or put glitter on the ground around our homes. See you soon. Life is good. From the King Gnome at Neck Point Park.

BEEF To a certain sports association that is known to run out good coaches and volunteers. Your staff and board members cry for more help, then when good help is offered, you decline and hire incompetent volunteers. You’ve ruined the game for many children. No wonder so many families choose other routes and associations.

BOUQUET To Nanaimo Pride for another great week. Happy Pride!

BEEF Boycotting U.S. products is a good thing, and I’m all for it. However, boycotting Californian wines is not fair to Californian wine producers and it is not fair to people who like Californian wines. Californians are our friends. Besides wine they send us veggies, fruit and whatever else, and they buy billions worth of goods from us.

BOUQUET Thanks to Dr. Jacobsohn and the medical team at Centre Island Surgical Centre fo the kind and efficient service I received recently. Bravo to all.
