In loving memory ~
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Vernon John Parish. He passed away March 27, 2023 in Kelowna General Hospital.
Vern was born in Prince Rupert, B.C. on December 14, 1943. With his Mom, Dad and older sister Vera, the small family moved to Unity, Saskatchewan. Vern's brother Verle, deceased in 2017, was born there. In 1947 the family with 3 children moved to Surrey Centre, B.C. With the family about to grow again, there were 3 more moves within a few miles of Surrey, B.C. Vern attended schools in Fleetwood and Tynehead. He had many neighbourhood friends who he played with in our large backyard. He worked as a carpenter assistant with his Dad before starting as a labourer at the plywood division of McMillian Bloedel in Burnaby. He moved to Quesnel for work and then to Williams Lake where he worked for Weldwood of Canada for many years before retirement. He bought a nice rancher on Conrad Crescent which he was proud of. Vern was predeceased by his wife Nida Taglorin, and parents John Samuel Parish and Vera Lillian (nee Mckenzie) Parish and brother Verle.
Left to grieve his passing are his siblings; sister Vera in Langley; brother Ron in Coquitlam; brother Gary in Port Hardy; sister Dona in Courtenay; sister Debbie in El Cajon, California; sister-in-law, Sandy in Hampton, New Brunswick; 12 nieces and nephews and their partners; 13 grandnieces and grandnephews; cousins; and friends. Also left to grieve are Verns partner Rosalina Cabiao, her daughter Helen Ibarra and husband Donnie Ibarra and their 2 children, Andrea Ibarra and Xander Ibarra.
Vern was kind, honest and a hard worker. He attended many family weddings, Mckenzie family reunions and enjoyed all those gatherings. He enjoyed sports and once flew to Calgary for a football game with his brother Verle and his brother-in-law, Grant. He liked to carve wood and in his early thirties enjoyed oil painting. He loved to hunt and made several trips to Unity, Saskatchewan where he went duck and goose hunting. He also enjoyed time with friends and family trout fishing at lakes, including Horsefly Lake. Vern liked to play card games and crib. He had a collection of old DVD movies that he would watch over and over. He was a special brother.
