July 1, 1931 - May 12, 2025
Sieg entered the presence of the Lord, Jesus Christ, on May 12, 2025. He left us peacefully in his sleep, with family by his side, in Williams Lake, BC at the age of 93 years.
Sieg was born in Masanajesti, Bukovina, Romania to Heinrich and Hilde (nee Sauer) Seibert on July 1, 1931, and in September 1951 immigrated to Canada. In 1956 Sieg married Christina Redenbach, and their union was blessed with three children, Kirk, Cindy and Ed. They lived in Williams Lake their entire married life.
Sieg (affectionately know as Siegy and Papa) is survived by Chris, his wife of 68 years; daughter Cindy Lewis (Brian); son Ed (Candace); daughter-in-law Marguerite; his eight grandchildren - Derek Lewis (Heather); Jennifer Yeung (Craig); Katie Weston (Kyle); Chantelle Derbowka (Jeremy); Timothy (Jocelyn); Michael, Maria Harden (Steve); Nathan (Melody); his nine great-grandchildren - Norah, Audrey and Jackson Yeung, Callan and Carson Weston, Phalyn and Natalie Derbowka, Ezra Seibert and Ellie Harden; his brother Al Seibert (Adele); sister-in-law Reta Seibert; and many nephews, nieces, grand nephews, grand nieces; second and third cousins in Germany.
Sieg was predeceased by his son Kirk; his sister and brother-in-law Ninette (Hilmar) Wolf; three brothers and sisters-in-law Fred (Hulda); Hans (Heide) and Karl Seibert; nephews Armin and Ekkehard Wolf and Thomas Seibert.
Sieg's lifelong career was as an automotive mechanic and over the years he worked at a BA gas Station, Beath Motors (later becoming Lake City Ford), Elton Elliott Transport, Lake Excavating, Lake Redi Mix, and the SD27 school bus garage. His mastery of this craft was beneficial when building and maintaining his brothers stock cars as founding members of the Lake Auto Racing Club and in offering advice and assistance to many over the years. Hobbies and other pursuits included Bowling, which he did at least once a week for roughly 40 years; Coaching boys minor baseball for years, being an excellent, fair and impartial umpire and, changing gears, still taking it very seriously when he was the coach of the church funball teams; Fishing in all seasons, while sitting in a boat, donning hip or chest waders and standing in a river or while sitting on a stump on the ice, put many meals in the frying pan or smoker; Hunting grouse, moose and deer also provided food for the table and enjoyment of the outdoors, peace and quiet time; Playing cards, specifically canasta with his sisters-in-law and crib which dominated during every coffee break and lunch hour at the bus garage and continued until just a few short weeks before he passed; Travel far and near by truck and camper took him mostly to where family was in Saskatchewan or to be with friends to enjoy fishing as previously mentioned.
Siegy/Papa's love of family, work ethic, wisdom, helpfulness and knowledge of all things mechanical were inspirational, and his Christian faith was a priority and very meaningful to him and now a comfort to his family. Sieg was a founding member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1958 and was a faithful member, regularly attending since then and serving quietly over the years in the maintenance of the building and in the construction and upkeep of the ball diamond.
A Christian funeral will be held on July 12 at 1:00 PM at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 377 Hodgson Road, Williams Lake with committal to follow at the Williams Lake Cemetery.
By his own profession, Sieg was a believer in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, for the forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life. His mortal remains are laid to rest awaiting the great day of resurrection when the Lord shall summon the living and the dead before His presence. To God be all honour and glory.
The family wishes to extend their thanks and gratitude to Pastor Noel Smith for spiritual care provided and his friendship with Sieg; the care aides, nurses, staff and doctors at AgeCare Cariboo Place for their kind and loving care given to Sieg during his final seven months.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sieg's memory to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, ALS Society of BC or Alzheimer Society of BC.
