Loving. Selfless. Kind. Extraordinary.
It is with utmost sadness that the family of Rhonda Kolcun announces her passing on December 14th, 2022, at the young age of 66. She joined the love of her life Gordon just 32 days after his sudden passing. She was surrounded by her loving family until the very end.
Rhonda bravely fought her incurable cancer for over 4 years and made the most of her time, visiting with her kids, grandchildren, family and friends as much as she could. The love, support and kindness that her friends, coworkers and community have shown her daughters is overwhelming and goes to show the impact she made on every person she met.
Rhonda loved with her whole heart - she would not only give the shirt off her back for someone, but she would sew them a new shirt out of any material she had around her house. She was known throughout the community as someone who would help out at any event, always bring the best brownies, buy Christmas surprises for everyone in her office, drop off a tray of baking at friends' houses, volunteer her husband for help with any and all tasks... Anytime someone needed help, Mom was there.
One of the ways Mom presented her love was by showing up - you could always count on Mom to be there and be the loudest cheerleader in the stands.
Rhonda and Gordon were married in 1976 and spent 46.5 years showing all of us what true love looks like. No one could deny the love between them. They moved to McLeese Lake in 1990 and Mom (the city girl) really took to country life. Her baking and crafting abilities were renowned. Her grandkids love to make "Koko's biscuits" and her baking traditions will be carried on.
Rhonda's love of taking pictures was also well known. She captured so many memories for so many people. The photo albums she spent hours making at scrapbooking weekends will be cherished by her family for years and years. Her daughters Kaytlin (Logan) and Marlaina, and her beloved grandkids Finnick, Dashel, Delaney, Jakob and Jocelyn will carry on all of her traditions and keep her memory alive.
Rhonda grew up in Thunder Bay with her big brother Gary (Lori), her twin sister Rosalind (Nelson) and little sister Lynnda (Wayne). Rhon and Ros were easy to pick out in a crowd with their "unplanned" matching shirts and spent countless hours talking on the phone, vacationing, bragging about their grandkids and working in the kitchen at their annual canning bees. She also leaves behind her sisters-in-law - Susan (Yuji), Candy (John), Doris (Kelly) and Sherry (Jason), many nieces and nephews and so many loving friends who became family.
A joint celebration of life for Rhonda and Gordon will be held in McLeese Lake in Spring 2023.
To honour her memory today, raise a glass of white wine or plain tea (but only dip the tea bag in for 1.2 seconds and add a half a splash of milk, just like how she liked it).
Rhonda, Momma, Koko/Kokum, Shisher, Auntie, Friend, there aren't enough words to say how much you will be missed.
Love you most.
