In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father at 89 years old. I'm happy he passed on his mother's birthday.
He was predeceased by his parents Benjamin and Terry Hoyer from Germany and his sister Leona Hoyer (Buchholtz) (Popoff). He leaves behind his brother Harvey and wife Ann living in Prince George.
Born in the bedroom of a small house in Regina, Sask. The family moved to many, many places and eventually to Prince George and Williams Lake where he met Beatrice Murphy. They were married in March 1953. Paul had made a promise to himself that if he had children, they would never move around to different towns and cities and sometimes two different schools each year. Thankfully we stayed in Williams Lake.
By the time Paul and Beatrice were 17 and 18 years old, they had the first two of their five children; Debbie, Greg, Tracy, Lee-Ann and Galvin.
Debbie, born 1953 (m: Barry Godin), child Brody and his children Brynn and Van (m: K. Rouse), child Brock Hoyer (Jenni) and his children Deakin and Asher.
Greg, born 1954 (m: P.S. Smith), their children Shawna (m: T. Lees) with children Elizabeth and Jackson, child Reshel (m: Chris) children Trenton and Everley.
Tracy (m: B. Schreyer) children Tiffany (m: B. Smith) and their children Adelynn and Myer, Brennan - has twins Mya and Aria.
Lee-Ann (m: R. Stevenson) children Destyni (m: T. Atchison), with children Alyssa and Ewan, Cherysh (m: C. Dyckson) with children Justice and Issac, Tresyre (m: J.Nash).
Galvin, with his daughter Kiania.
Paul, at age 17 worked for Lignums and loaded lumber in railway box cars by hand on weekends. He was always an 8 to 16-hour-a-day worker. He was the crazy CAT operator that made the "little squaw Valley Ski Hill" (About 18).
Always saved to pay cash, hitchhiked to Vancouver with $200 cash in his pocket and bought his first car.
Paul did not believe in credit cards and never had one. Story: Paul went to SEARS to buy a lawn mower with cash and the owner said you need a credit card!! Dad wasn't happy. The owner ended up putting it on his own personal card and Dad paid him when it came in.
At about 20 years old, they bought 2 acres on Dog Creek Rd. and built a one-bedroom cabin for our family. Paul played guitar for the "Starlighters" band on a lot of weekends.
Later in the '60s" they also bought 9 acres with a house and built an 8 Bay Hoyer Trailer Court on the front of the property.
Also, in 1968 started a 33-year career hauling logs for E.H. Borrow and received many Safety Driver Awards, working alongside his good camping buddy Gerry Schiller with Horn and Bluff Lake being their go-to places. Hunting and fishing with his son Greg over the years usually took them out West to many areas.
Later in years, he married Gail Abbey in July 1976. They bought 17 acres in Chimney Valley and loved to garden and go camping.
Later, in a relationship with Ann Ravenhill who also liked gardening, camping along with lots of canning.
In 2010 he lived alone, until July 2018 when he went into Millsite Lodge Care Home in 100 Mile House. We would like to thank the nurses and care-aids who were so loving towards him. Thank you.
Paul also requested that there would be no service.
