Patricia Caroline Lawtey (Gimbel)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Patricia Caroline (Gimbel) Lawtey on September 2, 2023, in Salmon Arm, British Columbia. Patricia was born in Drumheller, Alberta, on September 26, 1938, and embarked on a life rich in experience, love, and devotion to her family.
Raised initially in Calgary, Patricia moved to British Columbia at the tender age of seven. She attended Copper Mountain Elementary School and later graduated from high school in Princeton, B.C., in 1956.
Shortly thereafter, she took a job in Vancouver, where she met the love of her life, Dennis Glenn Lawtey. They married in 1957 and had three sons: Paul David Lawtey, Robert (Bob) Lawtey and Douglas Glen Lawtey.
Her husband Dennis was a member of the R.C.A.F., predeceased her on October 7, 2019. They were stationed at several locations throughout Canada, including Comox, B.C., where their sons were born. The family relocated multiple times, from Ontario to Cold Lake, Alberta, and then to Manitoba, before finally settling back in B.C.
Patricia is survived by her three sons, Paul (Teri, Lynn), Bob (Joanne), and Doug (Michelle), seven grandchildren: Dustin, Jennifer, Tyler, Patrick, Dallas, Jake, and Cade; four great-grandchildren: Daniel, Sean, Emersyn, and Camryn; brother Dennis (Patricia) Nelson; sister Vicky (Pat) Conroy; and a community of friends and relatives who will miss her deeply.
She was predeceased by her mother, Irene May Nelson; her father, Roland Gimbel; and her brother, Ron Black.
Gifted with her hands, Patricia was an exceptional knitter and crocheter. Her love for crafts was not merely a pastime but a genuine talent, her intricate work serving as a lasting testament to her skill and patience. It was a talent through which she expressed her love and care for her family. From intricate sweaters to heartwarming blankets, her handcrafted gifts were treasures that her family will hold dear for a lifetime. In her quieter moments, Patricia found peace and happiness camping at Rose Lake, a location that held a special place in her heart.
A woman of diverse talents, Patricia had a multifaceted career. She initially worked as a phone operator in Cold Lake, Alberta, later transitioning to a role as a librarian in the same town. Her career further evolved with a position in children's services in Manitoba, and she ultimately worked for the BC Assessment Authority before retirement.
A memorial service will be held in Williams Lake at a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada.
Her wisdom, compassion, and love have left an indelible mark on us all. She will be missed, but never forgotten.
