March 7, 2019
Otto Tomm, passed away peacefully March 7th, 2019. Dad was born in a small town named Zubrowszczyn in Poland, 1921. Our father then travelled at the age of six to Halifax, Nova Scotia by boat with his parents Herman and Hilda and two other siblings, Arnold and Freida. Once in Halifax his small family continued their journey by train to homestead in Trovchu, Alberta, and following that, to the infamous Cranbrook hill in Prince George where his growing family continued to farm. By this time Herta, Ella, Clifford, Ida, Emil & Robert were also to join dad's large family, with dad being the oldest. In the seventies, dad and mom endeavored a change of lifestyle by moving with our youngest sister Laurie to Moorehead Lake Resort, Likely BC. Dad loved the outdoor life, and worked hard maintaining the cabins for hunters and fishers and providing some relief for mom in the restaurant. Their one of many claim to fames was the "Moorehead Burger". Many stories were shared in that quaint little restaurant that we will always remember. Then dad and mom settled back into a few different homes in Williams Lake, which were always made very cozy and welcoming. Dad and mom have been married 74 years this July 14th. Our dad passed away, leaving this world physically to be reunited with his mom & dad and many of his special siblings.
Our family was overwhelmed with the generous, kind, respectful support of the staff at Cariboo Memorial Hospital. Dad was surrounded by family during his final hours. He leaves behind, our beautiful mom, Joan, his children Terry (Judy), Ron (Marion), Kathy (Harlan), Dyan (Al), Debbie (Robin), Laurie (Todd), 13 Grandchildren Derek, Tanya, Angela, Ronnie, Jen, Chris, Glenn, Josh, Jon, Ryan, Tyrel, Lindsey and Nathan and 31 Great Grandchildren and counting!
Dad's determination and unfathomable strength will forever be remembered. Pops big passion was hunting, buying and selling automobiles, moving into many different homes along the way, and also preparing some 'interesting favorite meals, such as "head cheese" and "pickled herring". Obviously there are many tales to conjure, but most definitely, dad loved his coffee, everyday possible at Denny's, three cups minimum.
As we think of pops, we know how nothing but our sadness can really pass away, because we think of Dad as living in the hearts of all those that he has touched over the years. For nothing loved as much as you were Dad, is ever lost. We love you... Dad's response would be... "Me too"
