In loving memory ~
It's been difficult to write this obituary. Our hearts were simply broken by the death of our mother. We had hoped to celebrate this 105th birthday with her, instead on this and every June 9 from now on we shall celebrate her wonderful life and loving spirit.
Our mom lead by example, she was fierce and funny and gentle and kind all at the same time. She listened. She was understanding. She was warm and loving.
Sadly, Mom took a fall at the beginning of the year fracturing her hip. At first, she rallied in the hospital after surgery, but it all became too much for her fragile body and she passed away at 104. Yet still at 104, her mind was keen. She had kept her charm, beauty, and quick wit.
Mom married our father, Dean Getz, in Duncan BC in 1941, where the first three children were born. The family moved to the Cariboo in 1953 residing in the Catholic Nuns House beside Rosary Hall. Welcoming their fourth child a few years later. After retiring from their logging business, they would move several times and returned to Williams Lake in 1978. Mom made her last home in Victoria, BC. Wherever Mom was it was home.
Norma leaves behind her children; Roger (May) Getz, Maureen (Arnie) Nohr, Cheryl (Sam) Daykin and Sharlene Rysstad and her much-loved grandchildren: Darren, Dana, Darnell, Dallas, Kevin, Sheldon, Tasha, Dean, and Brittany, 20 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Mom was never happier than when she had family around her. She loved us all each and everyone.
