June 11, 1939 - February 27, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lyle Severns. Lyle passed away peacefully at his home with his wife Ann, by his side on the evening of February 27, 2025. Lyle had just recently been dealing with health issues that he hadn't had to deal with most of his life. Lyle was 85 years old.

Lyle was born to Molly and Guy Severns in Acme Alberta, on June 11, 1939. Lyle was one of 7 children.

Lyle wore many hats throughout the years. His favourite hat was one of husband and father. Lyle and Ann were married on August 25, 1962 in Taber, Alberta. Together they had three girls, Roxanne, Wanda and Shannon. Lyle also wore hats of service. He was an army gunner, where he also trained as a boxer. Volunteer fireman in Whitecourt, Alberta was a very proud time for Lyle. He was also a member of the IWA (International Woodworkers of America) where he served on many committees and saw the Union through many strikes. Lyle was also very involved in the City of Williams Lake Council, in years 1980 to 1984, and 1987 to 1988. Lyle was very happy serving on council with many people he knew as lifelong friends. Lyle also had the privilege of throwing cow patties at the Williams Lake Stampede, not always with a winning result, but he had a lot of fun doing that. The Harlem Globetrotters were also one of his fond memories, trying with all his height of 5'8" to make a basket, unsuccessfully though, so he just hid the ball under his t-shirt.

Lyle worked for Alcan and Eurocan in Kitimat, until the family moved to Williams Lake in 1973, where he worked as a lumber grader until his retirement at the age of 65.

Lyle is survived by his wife Ann of 63 years. His oldest daughter Roxanne (Dennis Mervin), his second daughter Wanda, 5 grandchildren, Aaron Shaughnessy, Nicole (Travis McLaren), Evann Shaughnessy, Quinn Severns-Hunt and Austin Severns-Hunt. Ann and Lyle also had two great grandchildren, Norah and Damien McLaren, who they loved very much. Lyle is predeceased by his parents Guy and Molly Severns. Sisters Joyce, Argyle, Ruby, and a brother Ross. Also predeceased by his youngest daughter Shannon (Del Shaughnessy) and Son in law Dennis Mervin. Lyle is survived by two sisters, Leona Pratt and Ferne (Phil) Cymbaluk. Also mourning his death are many, too many to name nieces and nephews who all remember their Uncle Lyle as a caring and sometimes humorous uncle. Lyle also left his last pet Beau to mourn his loss. Lyle loved having pets around from way back.

There will be a church service on May 22, 2025 at their church, Williams Lake Alliance Church, at 1:30 on Thursday afternoon, at 261 Third Ave. South, by Pastor Chris Harding, with a light tea and coffee to follow.
