Charles M Travers, 91, of Tatla Lake, peacefully passed away on September 9, 2023.
Charles was born on September 12, 1931 to Charles and Myrtle Travers in Hoquim, WA, USA. He graduated from Elma High School in 1949.
In 1946, Charles met Ruth Robinson as sophomores in high school. They married on July 17, 1953. They had 2 children, Charlene Marie Travers and Carolyn Travers Knoebel.
From 1953 thru 1957, Charles served as a Survival Instructor in the US Air Force.
Charles studied Forest Timber Pathology at the University of Montana. He also attended the University of Idaho pursuing his studies in Forestry. During his University years, he worked summers as a seasonal Park Ranger in Olympic Nat'l Park, WA and then McKinley (now Denali) Nat'l Park, AK respectively.
The family moved to Alaska in 1963. With new teaching degrees from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, they went to their first assignment at a two teacher school in Anvik. They also taught in Shungnak, Point Hope, New Stuyahok, Twin Hills and Cantwell, Alaska.
Charles and Ruth retired to their small ranch in British Columbia in 1983.
Charles had many interests which included flying, mountain climbing, bird watching, and photography.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 8th, 2024 at the 7 Bar 7 Ranch.
