Barbara (nee Elkin) Thomassen

In Loving Memory ~
Barbara was born to proud parents Joseph and Florence Elkin in Winnipeg Manitoba in 1941. She was the youngest of 5 children; all of whom predeceased her. Barbara married the love of her life, Arvid Thomassen in 1960 and became a stay-at-home Mom to their two children. In addition to being a wonderful mother she was an avid bowler, swimmer, and all things gardens. In 1974 they sold their home in Burnaby and started their great adventure in Williams Lake.
Barb loved being around people so she took a job at Woolworths, quickly working her way to management. After Woolworth closed, she worked with friends at both Horizon Health and then Willy's Western Wear before retiring. She was also a volunteer with the Red Cross.
Barbara was both passionate and creative and with the combination of the two she became a brilliant card maker. Her cards are treasured by all those who received them. Her collection of the tools rivalled some stores. She could knit, crotchet, sew and she did it all with creative ease and patience.
Barbara was diagnosed with cancer in late 2022 and passed away shortly after. It was totally unexpected and a shock to both her family and friends.
Barbara is survived by her husband; Arvid Thomassen, Children; Judy Albin (Bill) and Dan Thomassen (Tina), her Grandchildren; Ryan Elvins (Brittany) and Robert O'Neill, Taylor Thomassen and Brody Thomassen; her Great Grandchildren; Dion, Saleen, Chloe, Theo; and her many nieces and nephews.
Barb cherished her family and friends and was generous and caring to all and will be missed by everyone.
