RCMP say a man was arrested and he could face multiple charges after an alleged arson at the Fort Nelson police detachment.
A fire was set along the exterior wall of the Fort Nelson RCMP detachment on Thursday (May 22), resulting in damage along the exterior of the building, Northern Rockies RCMP said in a news release Friday.
The release adds that in addition to the exterior damage, the air intake/air conditioner pulled "considerable amounts of smoke inside the building" and there was a temporary evacuation. The fire was quickly extinguished.
Cpl. Madonna Saunderson said a witness reported seeing a man allegedly starting a fire on the side of the detachment and took a photo of the male suspect fleeing on foot from the area. She said police recognized the person in the photo and he was arrested after a "brief foot pursuit."
The suspect has not yet been charged, but police said he could face multiple charges as the investigation continues.
