Roadside grass fire extinguished near Cawston

Human activity is believed to have started the fire

A roadside fire south of Cawston along Highway 3 near Vanessa Vineyard was declared fully extinguished on June 13.

The fire started on June 12, around 5 p.m. and grew to cover an area of about 0.3 hectares before it was brought under control and extinguished.

The cause of the fire is listed as human activity on the BC Wildfire Service map.

It is not clear what exact human activity was responsible, as video from residents shows multiple strips of flame along the roadside.

The blaze was brought under control quickly by firefighters, according to posts on social media.

Black Press has reached out to the Keremeos Volunteer Fire Department for more information.
